For low-fee volunteer project
Tools 4 Change
02/2012 – 03/2012
Project Summary:
Tools4Change is an exciting new volunteer project, which brings tools and skills to deprived communities, in developing nations. With the use of donated and refurbished tools, Tools4Change will teach the local population new skills construction. This will be accomplished through hands-on-training during the renovation of a local building. The initial project in February 2012, will see the renovation of a derelict church, an important part of the community. Volunteers will have the chance to work alongside the local indigenous community, and contribute to their learning new trades. The volunteers will get a chance to fully integrate into the local Sri Lankan community, in one of the most beautiful locations in the world. And they will be able to see their contribution to the community before they depart.
Volunteers will have the opportunity to learn new trades themselves. Those who already posses certain skills will be able to help teach the local people from Sri Lanka about different areas of construction. The project will work in the fields of plumbing, carpentry, bricklaying, electricity, etc.
Project Objectives:
•To give everyone the opportunity to engage in voluntary service, no matter their age, nationality, gender or religion
•To bring new skills and trades to the local community in Sri Lanka
•To assess the possibilities of establishing a permanent vocational program in Sri Lanka
•To allow the eager volunteers to contribute to the development of a deprived and excluded population
Project Guidelines:
Please take note of the following conditions that apply to each possible participant:
1. Candidates who are motivated to work hard are essential, though any technical skills such as carpentry, tiling, electrics, would be very useful
2. Volunteers should work well in multicultural environments and be respectful of cultural differences
3. Volunteers are required to assist in the financial obligations. They are responsible for:
•Obtaining their own visas, vaccinations and insurance
•Volunteers will be asked to contribute €850 towards their travel expenses
•Volunteers will not need to cover room and board cost, as these will be covered by the hosting organization in Sri Lanka
